Alcohol and cortisol : ウィキペディア英語版 | Alcohol and cortisol Recent research has looked into the effects of alcohol on the amount of cortisol that is produced in the human body. Continuous consumption of alcohol over an extended period of time has been shown to raise cortisol levels in the body. Cortisol is released during periods of high stress, and can result in the temporary shut down of other physical processes, causing physical damage to the body. == Alcohol == Alcohol is a psychoactive drug that has numerous effects on the functioning of the human body. Specifically, alcohol largely affects the body’s endocrine system, resulting in changes of various hormone levels caused by impairment of hormone-releasing glands and of target tissues. Hormonal changes may play a large role in alcohol-seeking behavior. Additionally, changes in hormonal levels may explain causation for relapse behavior in recovering alcoholics.
